ABOUT COASTAL YOUTH BALLET THEATRE |
Vision - Mission Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre (CYBT) is a non-profit dance 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to the artistic enrichment of the Grand Strand area through performances, productions, educational and scholarship programs. Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre provides a nurturing and intensive artistic home base to some of the Grand Strand’s and South Carolina’s most talented young dancers. * To provide young dancers in the Grand Strand an intensive training program that will prepare them eventually for the pre-professional world or should they decide to choose another career path, be able to use the life skills learned in dance: discipline, hard work, patience, respect, perseverance, determination, resiliency, cooperation, and good behavior – all necessary ingredients for success in life. * To provide professionally-scaled performance opportunities in the Grand Strand where otherwise the arts community is small and in need of support. These opportunities for the youth are through the annual “Nutcracker,” “The 2010 Spring Festival of Dances” productions and “An Evening of Ballet Series” performances. * To invite noted and experienced guest artists–teachers, dancers and choreographers to come to CYBT’s home base and allow young company members to be exposed to varied teaching, performing and choreographic styles. * Should funds be available, to be able to provide scholarships to need-based families whose children will meet the criteria provided by the artistic staff and who will commit to the work and discipline necessary for the training and performance opportunities that will be provided. * To create a setting where an entire community of dance teachers, students and their parents, and supporters of the arts will all be one in promoting an awareness of how the dance arts can bring fulfillment and joy to the hearts and spirit of everyone in the Grand Strand. History Founded in 2006, Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre is the official performing company of Coastal Dance Centre. CYBT is envisioned to become one of South Carolina's vibrant and accomplished youth ballet companies. Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre features its own company members and faculty as well as guest teachers, choreographers and dancers who have received critical acclaim for their work or performances. Valuing classical ballet masterpieces but with an eye on contemporary works, Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre aims to present a repertoire of classical ballets such as Nutcracker, Paquita, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote as well as the "Evening of Ballet Series," and the annual Spring Festival of Dances featuring an evening of classical, contemporary, jazz and tap repertoire. Only on its fourth year, Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre has already experienced tremendous artistic growth and success and is gaining a reputation for its high artistic standards and merits. Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre hopes to be a beacon of artistic excellence in the Grand Strand area, aspiring simultaneously to attract the best in professional dance to its home while sending its own dancers out as artistic ambassadors to the nation. The CDC-CYBT Dance Company Training Program Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre's Performing Company Program is a training and performance program for the more serious dance student. Participation in this program requires energy, a serious physical, emotional commitment and dedication to the work being done. Because classes and rehearsals may sometimes exceed the regular scheduled times it demands flexibility, patience, support and understanding from both the company members and their families. It requires a serious financial commitment from the dancers' parents as well because dance training and performance fees are undeniably expensive. CYBT is a company whose focus is on a high standard of ballet training and performance which ultimately, is good preparation for any dancer who dreams of pursuing a professional career. CYBT combines training in a variety of dance forms: ballet, modern, jazz and tap, to create a well-rounded and versatile dancer. CYBT company members work with experienced and dedicated teachers and guest artists exposing them to varied teaching, performance and choreographic styles. Every year, CYBT hosts master teachers, choreographers, guest dancers to create new dance works and / or perform with the company. During their tenure at CYBT, the guest artists teach CYBT master classes. These are invaluable opportunities for CYBT company members to learn from guest artists.
